MEology vs Theology: Boars in the Vineyard Podcast
There's a growing tendency in contemporary Christian circles to reframe the faith around the self — what some have called "MEology." Instead of starting with God and His revelation, MEology starts with me: my felt needs, my dreams, my preferences. Theology, by contrast, begins with God — who He is, what He has done, and what He requires of us.
This episode of the Boars in the Vineyard podcast dives into that tension. The conversation explores how self-centered spirituality subtly displaces biblical truth, turning worship into self-affirmation and sermons into motivational talks. When the gospel is reduced to "God has a wonderful plan for your life," we risk losing the weightier reality that Christ came to save sinners — not to validate them.
The discussion also touches on how MEology shows up in worship lyrics, preaching trends, and the way we talk about discipleship. If the goal of the Christian life becomes personal fulfillment rather than conformity to Christ, we've traded theology for something far smaller.
"The question isn't whether God fits into your story. The question is whether you fit into His."
